Biographical note

Ms Yorke was born in Stoke Newington on 24 June 1891. She was the eldest daughter of Edwin James Isaac Underhay (1861-1938) and his wife Jessie Alice Flaxman (1862-1955). On 30 August 1919 she married Reginald Charles Yorke who died on 3 March 1922. Following this she enrolled at the Middlesex Hospital where she trained as a physiotherapist in which profession she worked until her retirement in the 1950s. She worked at a number of North London clinics and during the Second World War she worked as a masseuse at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital. After her retirement she moved to Bexhill-on-Sea where she died on 28 March 1977.

The material was gifted by Eluned Hobbiger, a niece of Ms Yorke, in 2001.
