Biographical note

A female psychiatric patient, formerly a cook, who Rita Simon worked with in the 1940s. She suffered from crippling rheumatoid arthritis and used a wheelchair. She was originally cared for in a hospital but was transferred to a psychiatric hospital to better care for her paranoia and schizophrenia. Discussed by Rita Simon in The symbolism of style pages 64-69.
