About this work

Description

These notebooks document Heatley's biochemical research, notably penicillin research and experiments. Most of the notebooks contain graphs, diagrams and tables, some pasted-in, and also some inserted notes and letters. They are all indexed.

Heatley's work on penicillin with Florey begins in Oct 1939 (see 'Oxford V' PP/NHE/A/2/1/3).

See also C/1/1 for an explanation of the content and method of the notebooks.

See also notebook, A/1/8, which mostly covers work carried out in Oxford 1943-1946, but since the notebook was started in 1936 when Heatley was at Cambridge it has been placed in sub-series A/1.

The notebooks are generally in chronological order, apart from the last two, which have different physical characteristics from the ones entitled 'Oxford...', but still relate to the same period and the same research.
