Description

Comprises mainly laboratory notebooks which record Heatley's penicillin and other biomedical research whilst at St John's College, Cambridge, 1933-1936, and the Sir William Dunn School of Pathology, Oxford, 1936-1978, including the famous experiment on the "Curative Effect of Penicillin" on 25 May 1941. These can be found in series A/1 and A/2.

Series A/3 comprises notebooks of the research Heatley undertook in the 1960s in the USA on secretin and on pancreozymin.

There are also rough notebooks (sub-series A/2/2), notebooks from his time studying in Belgium and Stockholm on secondments (A/4/2-3), notebooks containing further gastric research (A/4/7) and research on detergents (A/4/5-6).
