Description

Laboratory notebooks from Heatley's time at the Sir William Dunn School of Pathology, University of Oxford, which lasted from 1936 until his retirement in 1978.

These notebooks document his biochemical research and experiments. They include calculations, graphs and diagrams of apparatus, some pasted-in, and also some inserted notes and letters. The volumes are indexed.

Sub-series A/2/1 relates mainly to penicillin and antibiotic research. Heatley's work on penicillin with Florey begins in Oct 1939 (see 'Oxford V').

Sub-series A/2/2 contains rough notes.

Sub-sereis A/2/3 contains Heatley's research on the toxin Delta Lysin in the 1960s and 1970s.

Acquisition note

'Oxford V', 'Oxford VI' and 'Oxford VII', and the Green Ledger (PP/NHE/A/2/3, 4, 5 & 14) were donated by Heatley in 1980-1983. The rest were transferred in 2004.
