About this work

Description

Correspondence files of CJST, arranged alphabetically by name of correspondent. This material was collated and arranged by AL Dean after his retirement as Secretary of the Museum and his 'Notes on filing' precede the main sequence. In general there is a separate file for each correspondent although many contain only a few letters. In addition, for each letter of the alphabet there is also a file containing accumulated letters from a variety of correspondents. The vast bulk of the material concerns the acquisition of objects for the Museum, either correspondence with individuals or dealers from whom material was acquired, or with collecting agents employed by the Museum such as Mall, Pratt and Sambon. However, there are also some files about Thompson's historical-medical researches, queries from the public and the exchange of information with other medical historians and collectors. There is also some information about the administration of the Museum, such as a file on 'Premises', correspondence with BW&Co and with modellers, designers and suppliers of museum equipment and furnishings. There is also series of files relating to HSW's archaeological excavations at Jebel Moya. The section has been weeded, on a file by file basis, of purely routine administrative material.
