About this work

Description

14 negatives, of scenes from the Burroughs Wellcome & Co factory, Dartford.

Primarily numbered slides, all are of the 'packers' floor, showing female staff working or on rest breaks. None of the staff are identified on the sleeves. The plates show women labelling and boxing bottles. Women are seating or standing, along trestle tables (production line working).

The room pictured in the negatives has electric lighting above the work areas and a clock at the far end of the room. The majority of slides appear to be of the same room as NEG12/03. However, 3 additional areas have been photographed (presumably all on the Dartford site).

List of negatives with approximate titles and (in brackets) original stickers:

- Packing floor (43) (packing tables are width ways across the room rather than length ways). - Packing (47) (pasting labels) - Packing, top floor room (59) - Packing Kepler (269) - Packing floor (276) - Packing floor (278) - Packing floor (280) - Packing floor (281) - Packing floor (286) - Packing floor (288) - Packing floor (289) - Packing floor (342) - Packing Quinine Bisulphat, c.1906 - Packing floor (399)
