About this work
Description
These files include edited copies of Johnston-Saint's travel 'diaries', typed up with space for marginal comments; telegrams and letters from Saint to London; copies of letters, mainly from Malcolm and Dean, to Saint; associated papers. A brief indication of some of the places visited is given. Although boxed with the other reports, item RP/Jst/B.23 may have originally had a different provenance as it includes correspondence with HSW and does not just concern reports of collecting tours, but also more general correspondence about the Museum.

At Wellcome Collection:
During the years documented by these records, Johnston-Saint purchased very large numbers of autograph letters. He made particular use of the Parisian dealer Victor Degrange and the firm of Etienne Charavay, also based in Paris. (The first report which mentions Charavay - and the acquisition of a Pasteur autograph letter from him - is for the report dated 23 November 1926, in WA/HMM/RP/Jst/B/1.) Much of this material, which formerly was included in the Western Manuscripts collection's Autograph Letters Sequence (WMS/ALS) is now incorporated into the manuscript sequence and can be found by searching on the name of the writer, the name of the dealer, or the old reference WMS/ALS.
