Reports

Known collectively as the 'Staff Reports' the records in this section were originally stored together [in FC11c]. They fall into a number of distinct, though interlocking, categories which represent the shifting reporting relationships and changing administrative structures. The arrangement given in this listing preserves these distinct series as far as possible. Monthly reports by the Curator to HSW or the Wellcome Foundation/Trust bodies were instituted in 1915, and are listed here as RP/Hmm 'General Reports'. This series is supplemented by Deans' reports as Secretary [RP/Dea] and Malcolm's reports as Curator [RP/Mal]. In addition to these three series, there are the two series which have become known as the 'Thompson Reports' and the 'Johnston-Saint Reports', detailing the individual activities of these two important WHMM personalities. These have been listed as RP/Tho and RP/Jst. At a departmental level, monthly or bi-monthly reports from senior staff to the Conservator were introduced in 1929, and are listed here as RP/Sta. Some of these files relate to the activities of a single person or department, but usually they are general files containing detailed reports from a number of departments. RP/Lac and RP/Kem consists of Lacaille's and Kemp's reports of their activities on visits outside the Museum, and as such provide a more detailed supplement to their reports filed within RP/Sta. Library annual and monthly reports 1924-1952 are to be found at WA/HMM/LI/Rep.
