Relating to the legacy bequeathed in the Will of S M Burroughs to the staff of Burroughs Wellcome & Co, the file comprises:

Circular letter (17 August, 1897) from R C Sudlow to Burroughs Wellcome & Co staff referring to a "prepared form of claim."

Letter (24 August, 1897) from C O Humphreys Son & Kershaw (Giltspur Chambers) to R C Sudlow, acknowledging his claim to a share in the bequest.

29 October, 1897. In the Matter of the Estate of Silas Mainville Burroughs, deceased, an "Agreement for severance of joint tenancy". A schedule listing names and addresses, with signatures, of staff members sharing in the bequest: "they respectively will henceforth hold and be entitled in undivided shares as tenants in common and not as joint tenants to the share and interest given to them by the Will of the said Testator...." 47 pages, retained with green ribbon, in original deeds casing of Markby, Stewart & Co.
