About this work

Description

Contact prints and negatives relating to Wellcome products:

Images arranged into the following sections:

Products: Folklore, 1960s-c1979 (41 images) Two distinct series of images, which were collectively given the title 'Products: Folklore' by a previous cataloguer.

The first series numbers 12 images, all signed 'Richard Hook, 1979' and are of scenes which appear to represent care of animals in the different traditions of the following countries: Africa, Belgium, New Zealand, Netherlands, Britain, Ireland, Italy, Australia, Arabia, Argentina, Finland and Nova Scotia

The second consists of 29 images, drawn by a different, unnamed artist. They consist of scenes pertaining to medical folklore and were produced for a series of Burroughs Wellcome & Co calendars with that title in the 1960s and 1970s.

Given a lack of supporting documentation, the reasons for the commissiong of these images is unknown
