About this work

Description

This was a project conducted by the Tavictock Institute of Human Relations Human Resources Centre and Centre for Applied Social Research through funding from the Leverhulme Foundation. The objective was to determine whether indicators of family need could be developed, quantified and used as a basis for social planning at local and national levels. The research conducted primarily took the family as the unit of study as a social-psychological organisation and a socio-technical organisation. Members of the TIHR undertook pilot studies working with families and members of individual communities to assess family need and focus attention on both the formal and informal, day to day, ways in which policy may be made. Research was conducting through varying methodologies, including systematic interviews, group discussions, behavioural observation, analysis of existing records, cohort anlysis, and questionnaire survey.
