About this work

Description

Hart left clinical practice and became a full-time researcher when he was recruited to the Medical Research Council (MR) in 1937. He was associated with the MRC for the rest of his professional life, where he held the following positions: scientific staff member of the Pneumoconiosis Research Unit 1937-1948; director of the Tuberculosis Unit 1946-1965; MRC grant holder at the National Institute of Medical Research (NIMR) in the Mycobacterial Research Division 1965-1993; Visiting Scientist at NIMR 1993-2002. Although these papers do not represent a complete record of Hart's career with the MRC they do contain material relating, in particular, to the establishment and work of the Tuberculosis Research Unit, the work of the Streptomycin in Tuberculosis Trial Committee and his research work at the NIMR. In addition the section also contains a selection of press-releases and publications relating to various aspects of the work Hart carried out whilst associated with the MRC.
