About this work
Description
Motivated by high levels of unemployment among schizophrenics undergoing rehabilitation, and general concern with quality of working life, this was a project in collaboration with the Nuffield Foundation to identify and explore the nature of problems faced by schizophrenics during rehabilitative efforts to find and retain suitable and satisfying work. Alongside this, there was also a secondary aim to assess and develop the roles of organisations and institutions involved in such rehabilitation and how they met the demands places on them throughout the process.
The research involved a study of employment experiences of a group of schizophrenics, appraisal of the multi-organisational nature of the system of care, assessment of the extent to which difficulties experiences by schizophrenics are related to their own handicaps, and an analysis of other influential factors.
