Out-patient Records

Six volumes of outpatient records comprising three volumes relating to Child Guidance Clinics and three volumes relating to adult Psychiatric Outpatient Clinics.

As a result of Physician Superintendent Dr P. K. McCowan's belief in early diagnosis and treatment, the first adult outpatient clinic, run by Crichton Royal Hospital staff, was opened at Dumfries Royal Infirmary in 1942. This was followed by the opening of a Child Guidance Clinic in Dumfries. In 1946 adult Out-patient Clinics were opened in Castle Douglas and Annan and a Child Guidance Clinic in Castle Douglas. Further clinics opened across the region in Stranraer, Kirkconnel and Langholm.
