Description

Papers of Samuel John Galton, grandfather of Francis Galton. Contains the following:

  • Agreement made between Samuel John Galton and James Farmer, that in lieu of taking an inventory of their Stock, Debts and Credits for the year 1765, they have ascertained the profits arising on their trade at the value of £2000 clearing deductions, and agree to pay to the credit of the said James Farmer and Samuel Galton £1000 each, making therefore on the 31st December 1766 a balance due to James Farmer of £13,862.18.5. and a balance due to Samuel Galton of £22,281.1.9.
  • Money order dated 01 April 1809. Messrs Galton, Galton & James Pay to William Dupe £20.11.6.
  • Money order dated 07 July 1810. Messrs Galton, Galton & James Pay to William Dupe £200.
  • Letter from Samuel John Galton to Samuel Tertius Galton, dated 24 July 1815. The letter concerns various places called Galton, the state of the local economy in Wolverhampton, the capture of Napoleon Bonaparte, and family matters.
