Description

Papers and correspondence relating to Burroughs Wellcome & Co Wandsworth site and the fire there in 1889 (including letter from Henry Wellcome to his mother re the fire), together with a reminiscence by C Bargate concerning his period of employment there, 1883-1930.

Includes newspaper articles and cuttings, typescript extracts from Chemist & Druggist, and notices to Burroughs Wellcome & Co employees. Also, a history of the Wandsworth site written in 1921 for Linstead.

The file includes two copies of Chemist & Druggist (2 November, 1889), containing (pp. 3-10) "The Story of Our Fire," with photographs of the fire-damaged factory and various accounts. Also, the Advertisements section, Chemist & Druggist (January, 1890), which reprints "The Story of Our Fire" together with BW&Co Wholesale Price List.
