Case. The situation of the Subaltern Officers of the British Army, reduced to Half-Pay, has long merited attention, and being now become very distressful, forceably calls for immediate relief. Their half-pay was fixed at the time the first reduction of the army took place, when 20l. was fully equal in value to what 100l. now is; and though great such difference, since occasioned, not any increase thereof has been made, or any effort whatever attempted, to effect that service for them.

The life and memoirs of Mr. Ephraim Tristram Bates, commonly called Corporal Bates, a broken-hearted soldier: who, from a private centinel in the guards, was, from his merits, advanced, regularly, to be Corporal, Serjeant, and Pay-Master Serjeant; and had he lived a few Days longer, might have died a Commission-Officer, to the great Loss of his lamentable Lady, whose Marriage he had intended to declare as soon as his Commission was signed; and who, to make up for the Loss of so dear an Husband, and her Pension, which then no Duke on Earth could have hindered, in order to put Bread into the Mouths of seven small Children, the youngest now at her Breast, the sweet Creatures being two Twins, publishes these Memoirs from the original Papers, sealed up with the Seal of dear Mr. Bates, and found, exactly as he mentioned in his last Will and Testament, in an Oven, never used, where, in his Life time, he secreted many State Papers, &c. &c. &c.

A new act of an inferior parliament: or, probably, an act of arbitrary power. Lately made within the Isle of Man, in the center of the British dominions, to imprison all women under covert baron (natives of that isle only excepted) for debts contracted singly by their husbands. Exemplified in The Case of an English Gentlewoman, already Fifteen Months a Prisoner, under Two Decrees of Court against her as a Wife. Together with The Unparallel'd Proceedings thereon, as she neither contracted a Peny of the Debt, or has a Peny to pay, or was ever in that Island, till after the Whole was consumed by her Husband. Meriting highly the due and effectual Consideration of Superior Powers. Addressed to the Lord High-Chancellor.
