Contains a letter from Vilm Jónsson informing Penrose that statistics about anencephalic births at the State Hospital are being drawn up, and will be communicated by Professor Steffensen; and a further letter from Steffensen providing figures for anencephalic and total births at the maternity department, National University Hospital, 1949-1955, and figures for total births and births with congenital malformations in the general population, 1948-1952. Contains cover note in Penrose's hand labelled "Iceland".
