This series is arranged according to the filing system Professor Young used to organise her work correspondence. She filed letters mainly by the first letter of the person's surname, and sometimes the first letter of an organisation's name or the main subject discussed in the content of the letter. At times letters from organisations are filed by the surname of the letter writer rather than the organisation's name.

Professor Young continued to attend events, advise colleagues and contribute to papers following her retirement in 1982. Correspondence from this period was filed separately by Professor Young so the files have been catalogued separately from her working correspondence.
