Membership

Material documenting the membership of the Thalidomide Society from its inception in 1962. Includes membership lists for 1963-1965, 1971 and the mid-90s.

The early material of which this section is mainly composed is particularly rich on what membership actually meant to those joining the Society. Whereas in some cases membership appears to have been more of a formality, in other cases surviving correspondence indicates strong ties to the Society and its individual members and representatives.

Another quality that stands out about the material in this section, the Society's registration forms and how they were processed, is that the Society saw itself virtually from the start in the role of data-gatherer concerning congenital malformation. Drafts of the form are at SA/TSY/F/5.
