About this work

Description

Series of brown envelopes on individual members, containing registration forms, occasionally also forms detailing medical information about children and general data about their respective families.

There usually is also correspondence with social workers, about suitable schools, as well as about fundraising through the Society's collection boxes, sales of its pens and Christmas cards, the car competitions organised jointly with the Lady Hoare Thalidomide Appeal, and similar.

Some files are virtually empty. In other cases their content runs to extensive exchanges where correspondents talk very much in their role as parents, reporting news about their children and offering one another emotional and practical support. On occasion content also relates experiences with members of the press, whose conduct appears to have been questionable at times.

Photocopies of the original envelopes, which have been disposed of, are attached to the content of each file. Where this is not the case the envelope was missing.
