About this work

Description

These volumes contain the continued case notes of male and female patients, both private and pauper, who were long term residents at Crichton Royal Institution. The four volumes comprise two relating to males and two relating to females, each with a volume for the First House and Second House of Crichton Royal Institution. Case notes for all patients listed in these volumes can also be found in the main runs of Male and Female Case Books, DGH1/5/21/3 and DGH1/5/21/4. In many cases cross references are given in these volumes to case notes in other volumes. In several instances it seems both the original case book entry and those in these Chronic Case Books have been used to record patient information. Information contained includes patient name, some patient details and original admission date, followed by dated case note entries about patient condition and progress. The first case note entry generally gives a summary of the patient's stay in hospital up to that date. The covering dates relate to the date the volumes were created, not patient admissions dates, a note of which can be found in the description for each volume.
