Correspondence prompted by On the Causation of Varicose Veins (1960). A wide range of correspondents, including several letters from Harold Dodd, and a brief letter from Yudkin. Also correspondence between Cleave and his publisher, John Wright & Sons Ltd, regarding terms of publication, book promotion, exploration of American publication, and the interest of Allison Ltd (flour millers) in obtaining 2000 copies for distribution to their retailers. Correspondence to Cleave from Allison. Copy of original diagram from On the Causation of Varicose Veins, and copy of John Wright & Sons “Medical Books, Complete Catalogue, Autumn 1960,” with cutting of BMJ review by J H L Ferguson of Cleave’s volume, tucked in p.23 where the publication is announced. Copy of Ethics and Members of the Medical Profession (BMA, 1953) – passage on “publishing matter suitable for the lay reader” marked (p.13). Also, copies of Mother Earth: Journal of the Soil Association (review by Kenneth Vickery) and Housewives Today (brief, marked reference by Doris Grant, also a correspondent in the file).
