About this work
Description
Notes of lectures taken down by G. Paterson VII-XII. Anatomy and Surgery from Doctor Hunter, London. The suggested date 1759 for these lectures is based on a passage on fol. 80 in Vol. I. Speaking of the lymphatic glands, the Lecturer says: 'These proofs have long ago convinced me of the Lymphatics being a separate system of absorbents, rising from every, even the smallest cavity of the body.... And tho' another has been lucky enough to print it before me (last year) the honor of the first thought is undoubtedly mine, and I published it at my lectures many years ago'. This passage clearly contains a reference to the 'Observations anatomical and physiological' by Alexander Monro [1733-1817], published at Edinburgh in 1758, in which Hunter's claims of priority in discovery were denied. Vols. VII-XI, p. 83 contain the notes of the anatomical lectures, and the remainder those on surgery. Produced in London.
