Description

Registers contain patient admission number, name, sex, class (i.e. private or pauper, or after 5 July 1945 Section 3/4/5), date of last admission (recorded in DGH1/5/11/1 only), date of liberation on probation, date of expiry of probation, name and address of person to whom sent (recorded in DGH1/5/11/1 only), and result (e.g. readmitted, discharged relieved).

Biographical note

Patients were granted periods of probation which meant they were still under the certification of their Sheriff Warrant but could leave the hospital for a specific period. Many were discharged while on probation without having to return to hospital if it was felt they no longer required treatment.
