About this work

Description

An artwork by Tuberculosis Patient 1 - "John" which shows a field with animals and a human figure. There is water in the middle ground and hills in the background. Rita Simon said this was painted in a moment of great happiness when "John" had been told that he could leave the hospital and return to his home in Ireland.

This artwork was numbered '14' in Rita Simon's sequence.

The artwork is reproduced in The Symbolism of Style Plate 8.6 and discussed in detail by Rita Simon on page 136.

The title has been taken from the caption used in The Symbolism of Style.

Rita Simon classified this artwork as Massive Transition.
