About this work
Description
As a result of increasing interest in "natural" and "painless" childbirth from the 1930s "Education for childbirth" classes became popular in the 1940s and physiotherapists figured significantly in staffing these. Many physiotherapists had no obstetrics training and sought training from their colleagues. After the OPA's formation in 1948, it became the main instigator of obstetric courses for the profession. Full membership of the Association was restricted to those who had completed one of its own post-registration training courses. From the 1980s, the Association worked with the CSP Post Registration Education Committee towards CSP validation of their courses.
