Files kept by the House Steward and Secretary, comprising one file of incoming and outgoing letters with enclosed reports, forms and notices relating to the operation of the Crichton Laundry, 1938-1963; one letter book containing copies of outgoing letters regarding goods and orders with local and national suppliers, 1942; and one file of letters relating to staff retirement, 1948-1946.

Biographical note

Mr Alexander Campbell was House Steward from 1930 until 1951, when the post was dissolved. He then assumed the position of Secretary and Treasurer to the Board of Management, performing similar functions. Mr Ernest Errington succeeded Mr Campbell on his retirement in May 1960. A memorial plaque for Mr Campbell, who died in 1964, was placed in Crichton Memorial Church in 1965. In 1967 the hospital's administrative staff moved into Crichton House and the building was renamed Campbell House after the late Mr Campbell.
