Letters from Thomas Huxley discussing the contributions of Erasmus and Charles Darwin to the development of the theory of evolution; Krause's biography of Erasmus [Ernst Krause, German biologist]; and giving advice regarding the Darwin memorial inscription.

A draft of Francis Galton's reply is included, with enclosed notes on the theories of Lamark [Jean-Baptiste Lamarck, naturalist], the evolutionary ideas of Erasmus Darwin, and notes possibly made from Krause's biography of Erasmus.
