Description

Professor Young was a member of various societies throughout her working life and into retirement. She was a founding member of the Neonatal Society, served as Treasurer and its President from 1984-1989. She was also a founding member of the Blair Bell Research Society, and a Governer of Bedford College Association.. Other memberships included the European Placenta Group, Physiological Society, Medical Research Society, Association of University Teachers, Society for the Study of Fertility, Biological Council, Nutrition Society, Royal Society, Ciba Foundation (now Novartis), National Spastics Society (now Scope), British Association of Perinatal Medicine, World Health Organisation, Biochemical Society and FRAME (Fund for the Replacement of Animals in Medical Experiments). As well as submitting her own research for publication, Maureen Young received requests from various scientific journals to review papers submitted for publication. She was also a founding member of the editorial board of the journal Placenta.
