Biographical note

A Study of the Organisation of the Neuropsychiatric Division of the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research, conducted by A K Rice, on behalf of the Tavistock Institute of Human Relations. The terms of reference of the study were to examine the organisation of the Neuropsychiatric Division in relation to its tasks. The Director of WRAIR felt that the Neuropsychiatric Division was growing too large, and that consequently its activities were increasingly difficult to control, and that it might be necessary to split the division.
