About this work

Description

Formed due to international interest in problems of tumour pathology, e.g. nomenclature, classification, diagnosis. Also, a MRC project to evaluate the therapeutic effects of irradiation and surgery with regard to bone tumours had drawn attention to the need for a panel of pathologists to carry out histological evaluation of cases. Role of the Panel would be to collect information with regard to bone tumours generally, study cases submitted to it from various sources and evaluate the MRC cases. Agreed that the Panel would function as a sub-committee of the general consultant panel of the Pathological Society. The Institute of Orthopaedics would provide technical and secretarial services and house the material registered with the Panel (funded by a Campaign grant). The Panel included external representatives. First meeting in Jan 1960.
