About this work

Description

1 artwork identified by Rita Simon's pseudonym "Tuberculosis Patient 7 - Bill" which is a portrait of a man. On the verso, Rita Simon has written the pseudonym "Bill" and identified this artwork as a "Self Portrait."

The method Simon used here was to encourage the patient to build up a picture through a series of uncontrolled lines, to see what happens. Rita Simon said, "I didn't use the metaphor of taking a line for a walk, as that implied a landscape."

The description of the artwork and the quote are taken from notes written by Wellcome staff during conversations with Rita Simon between 1995 and 1997

The title is taken from wording written on the verso.

Rita Simon classified this artwork as Traditional Massive.
