About this work
Description
Michael Parker is a Professor of Bioethics and Director of the Ethox Centre, University of Oxford. Chairman of the Genethics Club from 2001-2011, he co-ordinated the forums to discuss ethical issues in clinical genetics in collaboration with Anneke Lucassen, Tara Clancy, Angus Clarke and Fiona Douglas. Parker recorded the contents and discussions of Genethics Club meetings (refer to SA/GEC/A). The meetings focused on ethical issues and themes encountered by health professionals which included clinical geneticists, nurses, counsellors, NHS laboratory staff, policy-makers and bioethicists. He used this data as evidence to support the contents of his book Ethical Problems and Genetics Practice. The book focuses on the moral and legal aspects that arise in the daily practice of the genetics professional.
Section consists of working papers acquired and created by Michael Parker which relate to his book Ethical Problems and Genetics Practice published by Cambridge University Press, 2012. It includes correspondence, thematic analysis of Genethics Club meetings and draft typescripts of chapters.
Parker created a referencing system to signify cases and related themes, eg. the second case study at the first Genethics Club meeting is coded G1.2 and is implemented throughout his work.
