About this work

Description

Prints are placed in folders by the Medicine Case Number as indicated below. The Medicine Cases were given individual production numbers, and were often named. The cases appeared in numeric order in the Price Lists - so further details of the cases can be found by cross referencing to WF/M/PB.

Please Note: the Medicine Case Number is usually given on the original item and is given in black ink on the secol sleeves - the numbers on the sticky labels should be ignored!

Medicine Cases illustrated include all types - for home, work and motor cars, for industry, and for particular types of travels (such as African). There are also cases for hypodermic kits and for photographic chemicals. Cases are shown closed and open. All are close ups (i.e. without surroundings or people). Several views are often given. The prints were 'work in progress' for the Marketing Advertising Department and include black & white and colour prints. Most of the colour images are art work using the black and white print as the basic image (rather than being a colour photograph). Most prints are cropped or have black / white paint markings to heighten contrast for the images used as printers proofs. Several versions of the same image can survive (i.e. original print and edited copies).
