Notes

This work is untitled: the title has been supplied by the cataloguer.
The following description was provided by James Gardiner: "The martial arts enjoyed a great vogue in the early years of the twentieth century. The great exponent of 'Jiu-Jitsu', the Japanese Yokio Tani, visited England and appeared on the music hall stage in 1907. This photograph apparently of two men practising judo holds could easily admit another meaning: two partially undressed men entwined in an intimate pose on the floor."
