About this work
Description
An artwork by Tuberculosis Patient 1 - "John" which shows figures of cave-men handling traps, surrounded by animals, drawn in ink wash in a naive style. The figures are displayed as though in a frame, which has been drawn in as though an outline to the scene. On one of the side elevations of the stone are some small odd shapes which John described as being stones cracked open to show fossils inside.
This artwork was numbered '1' in Rita Simon's sequence.

The title has been taken from the caption used in The Symbolism of Style.
Rita Simon classified this artwork as Almost Transitional on the verso of the artwork and as Massive Transition in The Symbolism of Style.
