Biographical note
Originally the Director of the Khartoum laboratories, Sir Henry Wellcome asked him to become the Head of the Bureau of Scientific Research when he returned to London in 1913. The museum was set up a year later, and Balfour was closely connected to it during its first few years and during the course of WWI.
