Biographical note

William Davies DD. was Rector of Rockhampton from 1820 to his death in 1849 in his 80th year. He was the son of William Davies (1741-1817), Rector of Eastington and Anne Davies (née Jenner) (1741-1812), sister of Dr. Edward Jenner. He married Sarah Buckle of Chepstow (1787-1816) in 1810, and her daughter, also Sarah, born in 1812, married the Rev. William Henry Bloxsome (1809-1877) in 1834. Their son was also named William Henry (1836-1889), and his signature, together with that of his mother and grandfather, appears on the inside of the covers of several of the volumes of the diary, with the date 1875.
