About this work
Description
Volume of sonnets by various late 18th century poets, and by members of the Jenner and Davies families.
Compiler's holograph MS.
On the verso of the third preliminary leaf are pasted down a silhouette portrait-head of an unnamed young man, and a MS. poem 'Farewell to Sharpness Point' written by a different hand from that of the compiler.
On a fly-leaf: 'W. Davies 1809. Sarah Bloxsome from her affectionate Father, Oct. 31, 1840'.
On p. 269 is a poem: 'To my absent Friend Edward Jenner, M.D. F.R.S.', and on p. 273 another: 'Written in the grounds adjoining Berkeley Castle, Glocestershire [sic]. To E. Jenner M.D., F.R.S.' Both these are apparently by Edward Gardner. [Cf. p. 251].
Some of the verses are by the compiler, others possibly by his father, William Davies [1741-1817], and others by unnamed members of the Jenner circle at Berkeley.
There are also many poems by late 18th cent. and early 19th cent. authors whose names are given.
Produced in Rockhampton.
