File consists of final versions of a chapter, draft chapters and correspondence related to the book chapter by J.R. Vane, "A Plan for Evaluating Potential Drugs", in the book by Laurence and Bacharach (editors), Evaluation of Drug Activities: Pharmacometrics, (London: Academic Press, 1964). Vane's chapter was initially called , "A General Plan for Screening Tests", and most of the drafts are under this title rather than the final title as published. Details include:

Letter from Vane to Academic Press regarding royalties, dated 2 April 1965.

Letter from Academic Press to Vane referring to enclosure of a copy of the published book, dated 16 December 1964.

Letter from Glaxo Laboratories to Vane regarding the use of a diagram that was going to appear in the book chapter for another book called The Glaxo Volume.

Letter dated 12 April 1964 from A.L. Bacharach to Vane discussing final amendments to the chapter and accreditations.

Letters from Mary Waldron to Vane and also Vane to Mary Waldron, dated 21 and 25 November 1963 respectively, regarding amendments to one of the diagrams to be used in the chapter.

Letter to Dr Bacharach dated 7 November 1963 with detailed comments on the printer's typeset proofs of the chapter. The amended proofs accompany the letter.

The papers include Schering Corporations's Behvioural Evaluation Record Sheet, a paper on the "Behavioural Evaluation of Cat and Dog", typed papers on "Effects of Chronic Methamphetamine Administration in the Cat" and "Correlation Between Locomotor Stimulant and Brain Monoamineoxidase-inhibitory Activity of Iproniazid, Nialamide and Pheniprazine in the Rat", and various handwritten notes and cards.

Drug test sheet results from companies that agreed to take part in the research on which Vane's chapter was based.

Correspondence with drug companies which both agreed and refused to participate in the research for the chapter.
