Biographical note

The IEA was incorporated on 11 July 1967 (amended 8 September 1967) and registered in the State of Maryland, USA, in order to exempt the Association from liability for US and UK income tax; to receive grants, contracts, endowments and bequests in its own right; and to ensure ownership of the organisation's name. The trustees/officers of IEA Inc. are the same as those of the Association, and known as the Council. The original trustees at incorporation were Dr. Lester Breslow, Dr. John Pemberton, Dr. Roy M. Acheson, Dr. Kerr L. White, Dr. Walter W. Holland, Dr. Richard Doll and Dr. Robert Cruikshank. The first meeting of the Trustees was held in Jamaica, 19 April 1968, and Corporation status formally agreed at the 5th International Scientific Meeting in Primosten, Yugoslavia, August 1968.
