Circulars Book 1

Product literature and promotional material produced by Burroughs Wellcome & Co (BW&Co), 1894-1899.

The material gives a good indication of the range of medicinal products sold by BW&Co in the 1890s, a time when the company underwent rapid growth. Included are products both manufactured and sold by BW&Co, and those which were manufactured elsewhere and for which BW&Co acted as an agent.

From BW&Co's own products, included is promotional material relating to: the 'Tabloid' range (compressed products, more often compressed pills); the Hazeline range (cosmetics) and the Kepler range (nutritional). For those for which BW&Co acted as an agent, products by Wyeth (Beef Juice) and Linkenheil

Also included is promotional material for the Medical Diary produced by BW&Co and for the Wellcome Research Laboratories, which were declared by Henry Wellcome to be independent of his company.

The Guard Book is indexed at the front of the volume. For details of abbreviations / terms please see series description for Circulars.

The volume has been conserved, items have been removed from the original guard books and remounted in sleeves and ringbinders. This enables researchers to easily read items (front and reverse) without damage to the original. The original order has been retained. Each item has a small pencil number in the corner giving the original page number.

Should readers wish to consult items which are folded (such as folded leaflets or pamphlets) they must approach the Poynter Room Supervisor first.
