About this work

Description

A painting by normal psychology patient 5 depicting Rita Simon's dog, Joe. The image is accompanied by the following text: "I came to you some years ago, bedraggled, starving and alone. You took me in bathed and and fed me and gave me the name of Joe. Enquiries were made as to who I am and to find my owner but no one ever claimed me so you decided then you'd care for me and in return my aim in life is now to care take of you".

The title has been taken from notes made during conversations between Rita Simon and Wellcome staff between 1995 and 1997.

The date has been estimated according to the dates of other artworks in this series.

Rita Simon did not classify this artwork with a style.
