About this work

Description

Black and white clinical photographs of various conditions in female and male adults, children and infants, notably including phycomycosis, congenital deformities, madura mycosis, infections, Kaposi sarcomas, buruli ulcers, scar epithelioma, ulcers, lymphangioma, salivary gland tumours, liver cancer, malignant melanoma, cancer of the penis, thyroid, gangrene, breast and other tumours and human bites. Many of the photographs are labelled with the name of the condition and pages are often annotated with the country and date of the safari tour where and when they were taken (particularly 1964). There is one colour photograph of a scalp injury or condition, some group photographs of patients and group photographs of hospital staff and staff/patients in [Kenya] including two with Burkitt. The labelling of the photographs indicates they were all taken during safari tours in Africa.

Some images show surgical interventions, removed tumours and stones, x-rays

Not all of the pages have dates, but the images probably date from around 1964-1967. There is an envelope containing six loose photographs at the front of the album. The original album is labelled 'medical' on the spine.
