The following description was provided by James Gardiner: "Two handsome young men wearing exotic Zouave (French military) uniforms. Images of rugged working-class men (of any nationality) appear regularly in the scrap-books and collections of middle- and upper-class English Collectors, and this interest frequently developed into a fetish."
