Correspondence - all of a rolling-appointment nature - regarding Paton acting as consultant and adviser to the Director of Naval Physical Research. Subsequently (1978), Paton was appointed as Civil Consultant in Underwater Physiology to the Navy and was formally retired in 1982 on attaining the age of 65 years.
