About this work

Description

The School Medical Service Group formed in 1920. In 1947 it reconstituted and changed its title to the School Health Service Group in accordance with the practice of the Education Act. (See Public Health, Mar 1947, p133).

It is not known if the Group's official minute books are extant. All the files in this section, except P.9/17, 24-26, 28 & 30, belonged to Dr H M Cohen, a prominent member of the Group. (See biographical information below). This section was heavily weeded of routine papers. Some records of the City of Birmingham Education Department and the Medical Officers of Schools Association were transferred to Birmingham City Archives and West Yorkshire Archive Service in 1999. The general arrangement of Dr Cohen's files has been maintained.

For the Group's pamphlet 'School Medical Inspections' see J.6/2.

For the Group's response to the Ingleby Committee see D.4/1.
