Description

Colour and black and white photographs of Sir Henry Solomon Wellcome. There are numerous portraits of Wellcome, the earliest is a family shot in 1869, the latest was taken the year of his death in 1936. There are some negatives of the portraits including the painting of Sir Wellcome by Hugh Rivere of 1906. There are also images of Wellcome abroad on trips which include the Nile, 1900-01; Maine 1886; Florida 1935; at excavations at Jebel Moya, c.1913; seated with staff of the Wellcome Tropical Research Laboratories, Khartoum, Sudan, in 1910. There is a photograph of his signature; a photograph of the letter sent from 10 Downing Street to Wellcome with reference to a Knighthood, 16th Dec. 1931; Presentation of a silver trophy to Wellcome by Milwaukee County Druggist, 1934; the Mayo home; Wellcome with his wife, Mrs Wellcome; Wellcome's home , 6 Gloucester Gate; two images of his historical collections, Murphy's Chloroform Inhaler 1850-1910 and Dubois anaesthetizing machine c.1900; Wellcome with staff at Wellcome Tropical Research Laboratories, Khartoum, Sudan, 1910; Wellcome's funeral at Golders Green on July 29th 1936 including floral tributes, the body being conveyed into the chapel, the body in the chapel, the hearse; Wellcome's Will; colour photographs of murals which depict the life and works of Wellcome at Wellcome Memorial Building in Minnesota 1990.There is a photographic Album which consists of black and white photographs primarily of Henry Mounteney Wellcome taken in 1915, two of the photographs are of Sir Wellcome with his son.
